The BT-4 is a Soviet twin-turret tank from the interwar period and from the initial phase of World War II. The first prototypes of this vehicle were built in the early 1930s, and a short series production took place in 1932. Probably only about 20 cars of this type were created in its course. The combat weight of the tank reached approx. 11 tons. The basic armament consisted of 2 DT 7.62 mm machine guns.
The BT-4 belonged to the family of high-speed tanks developed in the USSR based on the imported chassis and suspension of Walter Christie. It allowed these tanks to move on both tracks and wheels. Of course, when driving on the road, the maximum speed of the BT family cars was very high - far exceeding the capabilities of tracked cars. The BT-4 tank also had this option. It was also a kind of development of the BT-2 / BT-3 tank. It was a vehicle with weapons placed in two turrets placed next to each other - by the way, the same as in the T-26 model 1931. The vehicle, however, was not produced on such a mass scale as the later BT-5 or BT-7. Its combat use is also uncertain, for example during the winter war of 1939-1940 or the initial phase of the German-Soviet war in 1941.
