The Gloster Gauntlet was a British biplane fighter with a metal structure covered with linen, from the interwar period and World War II. The drive was provided by a single engine Bristol Mercury VI S.2 with 645 hp. The prototype's flight took place in 1933. In the course of serial production in the years 1933-1936, about 240 copies of this aircraft were made. They were armed with 2 Vickers machine guns with a caliber of 7.7 mm and up to 72 kg of bombs.

In 1930, the RAF issued a very ambitious specification for a new fighter plane. It turned out to be so excessive that no British aircraft manufacturer at the time was able to meet it. The British Air Force therefore began searching for an aircraft that would be an interim solution before the new RAF target fighter would enter service. This is how it was commissioned into the service of the Gloster Gauntlet, which, despite its transitional nature, turned out to be quite successful: it had a good top speed, very good climb speed and a high altitude. From 1937, Gloster Gauntlets were displaced from the line by Gloster Gladiator and later Hawker Hurricane machines, but they managed to take part in World War II: in the period 1940-1941 they fought against the Italian air force in North Africa in the colors of the RAF.
