Trumpeter 05552 KV-5 Super Heavy Tank

The KW-5 was a project of a Soviet heavy tank from World War II. The car project was never developed as a prototype, let alone entered into mass production. The vehicle was to be powered by two B-2K diesel engines with a total power of 1,200 hp. The tank was to be armed with a 107mm Zis-6 cannon and two 7.62mm DT machineguns.

In mid-1941, design work began on a new Soviet heavy tank under the designation KW-5. When designing the new vehicle, the most important thing was the possibly powerful armor, which was supposed to reach as much as 180 mm in the front of the turret. The tank was also armed with a powerful 107mm cannon, which would be able to fight enemy armored vehicles at long distances. It was also planned to put a small turret with a machine gun at the front of the car, which can be treated as the aftermath of the experience gained with the T-28 and T-35 tanks. In order to simplify serial production, the KW-5 was to use a lot of elements from the KW-1 and KW-2 vehicles. However, the imminent outbreak of the war with Germany (June 1941) made it impossible to create a prototype, let alone put the KW-5 into production. Design works on it were probably discontinued at the end of 1941.
