The Autocar Model U7144T was an American truck / tractor unit from the World War II period. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created shortly after 1939, and serial production started in 1941. The drive was provided by a single engine Hercules RXC 112 HP, mated to a 7-speed gearbox. Shortly after the start of World War II, the American automotive company Autocar Company began to adapt its COE trucks to military service. The result of these works was the creation of a quite successful truck designated as U2044. However, very quickly (in 1941), the production of its modernization, i.e. the U7144T car with a lifting capacity of up to 5 tons, started. It was a shortened version of the U8144 model, which, however, was reinforced and retained many of the mechanical components of its ancestor. It is estimated that between 1941 and 1945, around 11,100 U7144T trucks were built at the parent plants. These vehicles were widely used by the US military, both by the army and the air force.
The Chevrolet M6 (another name: Chevrolet M6 Bomb Service Truck) is an American military truck from World War II. The first prototypes appeared in 1942, and serial production continued in 1942-1944, ending with the production of about 7,000 copies of this car. A single engine with a capacity of 3.9 liters and 83 HP was used as the drive.
The Chevrolet M6 was manufactured as a specialized military truck, designed to transport bombs and ammunition at airports. When designing it, a lot of emphasis was placed on the lowest possible production and operating costs, as well as the simplicity of construction and possible repairs. The vehicle had all-wheel drive (4x4) and was also adapted to tow the M5 semi-trailer. Over time, it began to be replaced by specially adapted M27 vehicles, which in turn were based on many elements of the GMC CCKW truck.
