It was used in combat for the first time during the fighting in North Africa in May 1942. It is worth noting that the Ordnance QF 6-pounder 7 cwt gun was also used as a naval and anti-aircraft gun. The cannon was also manufactured under license in the USA. The Ordnance QF 6-pounder cannon fired several types of projectiles. First of all, it was capable of firing an AP (armor piercing) (AP) missile, i.e. a full-caliber anti-tank missile. Such a missile could penetrate an armor plate with a slope of 60 degrees, 112 mm thick at a distance of 500 meters, 89 mm thick at a distance of 1000 meters and 70 mm at a distance of 1500 meters. From the beginning of 1944, the cannon could also fire APDS (Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot) missiles. sub-caliber with a throwaway sabotage. In this case, the penetration parameters were clearly better: at a distance of 500 m, the projectile could cover 160 mm of armor steel, at a distance of 1000 m - 140 mm, and at a distance of 1500 meters - about 120 mm of steel. These parameters were significantly better than the 40mm QF2 gun.
