Szwetsov ASZ-62 (Shvetsov ASh-62 ) is a Soviet aircraft engine from the interwar period, World War II and the post-war period. Its first prototypes were built in the 1930s, and the first successful start-up took place in 1937. Just over 40,000 units of this engine were manufactured in the course of production. The length of this power unit is 138 cm and the capacity is 29.91 liters. The "dry" weight of this type of engine is 567 kilograms. The presented power unit is an air-cooled 9-cylinder radial engine with a maximum power of 1000 HP. The Szwecow ASZ-62 engine was structurally based on the Pratt and Whitney R-1820 Cyclone engine, which was licensed in the Soviet Union. The main modification was the use of a two-stage compressor. However, many other engine components remained unchanged. The Shvetsov ASZ-62 engine was used in many aircraft produced in the USSR, including such machines as: Antonov An-2, Lisunov Li-2 or Polikarpov I-153. It is worth adding that the engine was also licensed in Poland under the designation PZL Asz-62IR.
