Avis 72023 Crusader AG-4

The American Gyro AG-4 Crusader was a prototype American liaison and passenger aircraft from the interwar period in a low wing fixed landing gear system. The drive was provided by two Menasco C4-S engines with a maximum power of 150 HP each. The flight of the prototype took place in 1935 - the machine never entered mass production.

The AG-4 Crusader was designed by Thomas Shelton for the American Gyro Company, a small aviation company. The new plane was characterized by an unusual layout with a relatively small fuselage and a rear tail located on two tail beams. Similar to the later P-38 Lightning fighter. The AG-4 Crusader has also been aerodynamically refined. It was assumed that the machine would be able to carry up to 4 passengers. A project of a slightly enlarged version of the AG-4, designated AG-6 Buccaner, which could carry 6 passengers, was also developed. However, both designs did not go into series production as the American Gyro Company had to file for bankruptcy shortly after the AG-4 flight.
