DISCONTINUED Special Hobby 72071 F2G-1/2 Super Corsair

The Goodyear F2G Corsair (also often called Super Corsair) was an American fighter and sports aircraft from the Second World War and the Cold War. In the F2G-2 version, the drive was provided by a single Pratt and Whitney R-4360-4 engine with a capacity of 3000 HP. The length of the aircraft was approximately 10.3 meters with a wingspan of approximately 12.5 meters. The maximum speed of the aircraft reached 694 km / h, and the flight range (with overhead tanks) was approximately 3,150 kilometers. The deck armament consisted of four 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine guns.

The presented plane was in fact a much modernized version of the Vought F4U-1 machine, which was licensed at Goodyear under the designation Goodyear FG-1. The modification consisted mainly in the use of a much more powerful engine, slightly aerodynamically correct and the use of a different type of cockpit fairing. These changes, apparently small, significantly improved the aircraft's performance - especially the maximum speed. Moreover, such a redesigned F4U model was actually interested in the US Navy and the US Marine Corps, but as the plane was built at the end of World War II (the flight of the prototype took place in July 1945), serial production was not launched. In total, only 10 examples of this aircraft were built, several of which (after disarmament) went to the civilian market.
