The radar is an integral part of the Mark 99 fire control system. The main task of the AN / SPG 62 is to highlight the target in the final phase of the SM-2 missile guidance. Thus, it is an element of the air control system on the units that carry it. Most often, the AN / SPG 62 radar is closely related to the AN / SPY-1 air surveillance radar, which is one of the most important elements of the AEGIS system. It is assumed that one AN / SPY-1 radar is able to cooperate simultaneously with four AN / SPG 62 fire control radars. It is considered that the AN / SPG 62 radar is a highly effective device, with high reliability and allowing for a very high hit probability. missile at the target.
