Ilyushin Ił-28 (NATO code: Beagle) is a Soviet twin-engine, high-wing jet tactical bomber with a full metal structure. The flight of the prototype took place on July 8, 1948 (with Rolls-Royce Nene engines), and the entry into the linear units took place in March 1950. The serial versions of the Il-28 were powered by two Klimov WK-1 turbojet engines. The aircraft was produced for the USSR Air Force in Moscow, Voronezh and Omsk. In the course of many years of service, several versions of the Il-28 aircraft were created. The basic production version of a typical bomber was a machine designated simply as the Il-28. The Ił-28U version is a training version, while the Ił-28R is a reconnaissance version. The modification of the basic version was the Il-28N aircraft, adapted to carry the RDS-4 tactical atomic bombs, with better avionics and additional fuel tanks. The IL-28PŁ was also built, i.e. the ZOP aircraft adapted to dropping torpedoes or depth charges. It should be noted that the Il-28 was widely exported to allied countries of the USSR, including the People's Republic of Poland, where it entered service as early as 1952. The PRC also undertook the license production of the Il-28 under the designation Harbin H-5.
