Kiyomizu-dera (official name: Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera) is a Buddhist temple complex located on the outskirts of the city of Kyoto, on the slopes of Mount Otowa, on the island of Honshu in southern Japan. The complex was built in the second half of the 8th century AD and, as the legend says, it was built on the initiative of a Buddhist monk named Enchin. Unfortunately, the original buildings burned down in a great fire in 1629, but very quickly (already in the years 1631-1633) it was rebuilt on the initiative of one of the Tokugawa shoguns. The facility is characterized by a very picturesque location, on a hill, at the foot of a waterfall called That's it. Now Kiyomizu-dera is located beneath the site of the Buddhist Hosso-shu sect. The facility is perceived as one of the most important Japanese architectural monuments and is very popular among tourists.
