HSK Atlantis was a German auxiliary cruiser of the Second World War. The launch of the vessel took place in 1937, and it was commissioned in the same year. The length of the ship was 155 meters and a width of 18.7 meters. Full displacement reached approximately 17,600 tons, and maximum speed - to approximately 16-17 knots. The deck armament, after the conversion, consisted of: 6 150 mm guns, 1 75 mm gun or 2 37 mm cannons. The unit also had the ability to operate two He-114C or Ar-196 seaplanes.
The vessel was designed and originally built by the Bremer Vulkan AG shipyard as a merchant ship named Goldenfels. However, at the outbreak of World War II, the ship was seized by the Kriegsmarine and converted into an auxiliary cruiser. In the course of modernization, the ship was armed, was given the possibility to operate seaplanes, and diesel engines were changed, which resulted in a slight increase in the maximum speed. Commander Bernhard Rogge took command of the unit. In the period from May 1940 to September 1941, the unit sank or intercepted as many as 22 Allied ships with a total displacement of approx. 145,000 GRT. HSK Atlantic was sunk on November 21, 1941 by the British heavy cruiser HMS Devonshire.
