GPNVG-18 (ang. Ground Panoramic Night Vision Goggles - GPNVG abbreviation) are wide-angle, American-made night vision goggles from modern times. The main producer is the company L3Harris Technologies (abbreviated: L3Harris) is based in Melbourne, Florida. The goggles are approx. 14.3 cm long, with a width of approx. 22 cm and a height of approx. 9.5 cm. In turn, their weight does not exceed 770 grams. It is assumed that with fully charged batteries you can use the goggles for approx. 30 hours. GPNVG-18 was primarily developed for use by US Special Forces, and was probably the first time used by SEAL Team Six's troops in the May 2011 operation to wipe out Osama ibn Laden. The presented goggles were a real revolution in the use of this type of devices due to the use of as many as four third generation light amplifiers, instead of the two used so far. Thanks to this solution, the operator has a much better horizontal field of view, which in turn significantly improves his combat capabilities in night conditions. At the same time, however, their effective use on the battlefield requires appropriate training, because the image generated by GPNVG-18 is different than the one that can be seen through ordinary night vision goggles. As a curiosity, it can be mentioned that the price of single GPNVG-18 goggles is approx. USD 35,000-40,000. 2019 prices.
