Ardpol 72-064 RWD-13

The RWD-13 was a Polish tourist plane from the interwar period. It was characterized by a mixed structure, covered with linen, in the arrangement of a high wing with a classic tail and a fixed undercarriage. The drive was provided by a single PZInż Walter Major engine with a capacity of 130 HP. The prototype flight took place in 1935. Serial production continued in 1936-1939, ending with the production of about 100 aircraft of this type.

The RWD-13 was created at Doświadczalny Zakłady Lotnicze with its seat in Warsaw as a development of the RWD-6 and RWD-9 machines. As the new machine was supposed to be a tourist plane, the wing mechanization was limited and a weaker power unit was used. However, we managed to keep the advantages of previous RWD planes, such as: short take-off and landing paths, ease of piloting and excellent stability in horizontal flight. Ultimately, the RWD-13 turned out to be a very good plane in its class and achieved commercial success not only in Poland, but also on foreign markets. It was exported, among others, to Brazil or Spain. Two development versions were created: RWD-13S (sanitary aircraft) and RWD-13ST (tourist and sanitary aircraft).
