The CV90 is a modern Swedish tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The first prototypes of the vehicles were created in 1988, and serial production started in 1993 and is still going on. The drive - depending on the version - is provided by a single Scania DS14 or Scania DC16 diesel engine with 550 or 810 HP. The vehicle - in its basic version - is armed with a 40 mm automatic cannon and a single 7.62 mm machine gun.
The CV90 was initially created for the needs of the Swedish army, which was looking for a new infantry fighting vehicle from the early 1980s. After unsuccessful attempts to introduce British constructions to the Swedish army (eg FV101), it was decided to develop a completely new design with the help of domestic industry. The main contractor turned out to be the Hagglunds company, and the weapons were provided by the Bofors company. Finally, a successful vehicle was created with very good off-road mobility, good armament and armor, and above all, with a large modernization potential. Many variants of this vehicle were created in the course of serial production, including: CV9040 (basic production version), CV9030 (version armed with a 30mm Bushmaster II autocannon), CV9035 (version with a 35mm Bushmaster III cannon) or CV90 AMOS (Self Propelled Mortar). Vehicles CV90 they were or are used by the armed forces of several countries, including: Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands and Norway.
