Thales AN / PRC-148 is a multi-channel, portable, lightweight field radio. It is assumed that the presented device can operate in the frequency range from 30 to 512 MHz. In turn, its mass does not exceed 0.87 kg, which makes it a fully mobile and individual radio. AN / PRC-148 was developed in cooperation with the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM for short) and Thales Communications. From the beginning, it was assumed that the new telecommunications device would be one of the basic devices of this type in NATO armies, and during its design, a lot of emphasis was placed on data transmission security and reliability. The device entered serial production in 1994. It is assumed that about 100,000 devices of this type were produced during the production, of which about 31,000 were used by the US Army. It is worth noting that many AN / PRC-148 sets were used by American troops stationed in Afghanistan (since 2001) and Iraq (since 2003).
