The 3-inch Gun M7 is an American anti-tank gun and 76.2 mm tank gun from the Second World War. The gun was the primary armament of the M6 heavy tank and the M10 Wolverine tank destroyer. The presented gun was in fact a development of the 76.2 mm M1917 / M1918 anti-aircraft gun, which was developed during the First World War and later adapted to be mounted on vehicles. Thus, the genesis of the 3-inch Gun M7 is almost identical to the genesis of the German 88mm KwK36 gun. The firing unit of the M7 cannon in the M10 Wolverine was 54 shells, 48 of which were in the hull and 6 in the turret of a tank destroyer. The cannon could fire various types of missiles, for example: M79 (AP-T missile), M62 (APCBC anti-tank missile) or M42A1 (high-impact missile). At the end of World War II, the T4 or M93 HVAP missile was also introduced. However, the most commonly used anti-tank missile. was the M62 and its modernization M62A1, which was able to penetrate an armor plate inclined at an angle of 30 degrees with a thickness of 88 mm from a distance of approx. 900 meters.
