Westerheversand Lighthouse was built in 1906-1907, and it was put into operation a year later - in 1908. The lighthouse is located in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein on the North Sea coast of Germany. The lighthouse tower is 40 meters high and its range of white light is 21 nautical miles (NM), red - 16.5 NM, and green - 17.5 NM. It was founded on an artificial hill, created especially for the construction of a lighthouse. The entire upper part of the lighthouse was made of cast iron elements cast by the steelworks in the city of Isselberg. Symmetrically, on the sides of the lighthouse, there are two lighthouse keepers' houses, which were put into use in 1907. In 1979, the lighthouse was automated and the cabins are used by employees of the Wadden Sea National Park and as a research facility of the University of Kiel. Since 2001, the lighthouse has been open to the public.
